Mulching railway lines
Continuous vegetation care and the declining single-rail options for two-way-equipment in recent years lead to the increased use of radio-controlled machines of IRUS Motorgeräte GmbH as not rail-mounted equipment. The so-called prune-back zone (6 m from the track centre) must be “cared for” regularly in order to lastingly keep it free from heavy plant cover and for an intended, weeded state. IRUS delivers the equipment necessary to perform this vegetation maintenance while simultaneously observing the required safety measures for employees.
Because of their size and weight, IRUS machines with flail mower or forest mulcher cover different applications in terms of geomorphological road conditions and vegetation type and density. DELTRAK is suitable especially for working in lighter, annual growth; the new TWIN (available July 2015) can also be used for difficult, annual to biennial plant populations. Another advantage of both machines hereby is the design as a carrier machine which enables the replacement of the mentioned mulching tools with other attachment parts (such as e.g. stump grinders). The switchover from manual work with string trimmers or the use of the two-way technology is associated with high area output and consequently high work efficiency. Compared to the average area output of a four-man team with string trimmers (200–400 m²/h), the performance with DELTRAK is still at least 800 m²/h even under the most difficult conditions.
Previous assignments have very clearly shown that operating personnel must meet specific requirements for the handling of the equipment as well as technical skills. The work efficiency and consequently the economic efficiency of the use of technology is therefore also considerably influenced by the professional and secure handling of operators.
